Choosing the Right Seed Variety for Better Yields

Selecting the right seed variety is one of the most important decisions a farmer makes before planting. Even with good soil preparation, proper fertilizer application, and favorable weather conditions, poor seed selection can significantly reduce yields.
When choosing seed, start by considering your local environment. Different varieties perform differently depending on rainfall patterns, soil conditions, altitude, and temperature. Farmers should prioritize varieties that have been tested and recommended for their specific region.
Certified seeds are generally preferred because they undergo quality control processes to ensure purity, germination rates, and resistance to common diseases. Although certified seeds may cost more initially, they often result in better yields and lower losses.
Disease and pest resistance is another critical factor. Selecting varieties with resistance to common local diseases can reduce production costs and minimize the need for chemical treatments.
